Adaptions.

Adaptations are changes made to a person’s home or environment to enable them to carry out daily living tasks more easily. These adaptations are provided by social services in the UK to support individuals who have a disability, a long-term illness, or who are elderly.

What are Adaptations?

Adaptations are changes made to a person’s home or environment to enable them to carry out daily living tasks more easily. These adaptations can include changes to the layout of the home, the installation of equipment, and modifications to existing equipment.

Adaptations are designed to support individuals who have a disability, a long-term illness, or who are elderly. The aim of adaptations is to enable individuals to remain in their own homes and to live independently for as long as possible.

When you have a disability or mobility issues, it can be difficult to maintain comfort and safety in your home. Social Care and an Occupational Therapist will assess your home and advise you on what adaptations and equipment are required. You may be eligible for a Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG) for major adaptations. We can assist during these assessments to ensure that things happen in a timely manner.

Types of Adaptations.

There are several different types of adaptations that may be provided by social services in the UK. These adaptations include:

Minor Adaptations

Minor adaptations are small changes made to a person's home or environment to make it easier for them to carry out daily living tasks. Examples of minor adaptations include handrails, grab rails, and lever taps.

Major Adaptations

Major adaptations are larger changes made to a person's home or environment to make it more accessible. Examples of major adaptations include the installation of a stairlift, the widening of doorways, and the installation of a level access shower.

Equipment Adaptations

Equipment adaptations involve the installation of equipment to support individuals with daily living tasks. Examples of equipment adaptations include the installation of a hoist, the provision of a commode, and the installation of a bath lift.

Environmental Adaptations

Environmental adaptations involve changes to the environment outside of the home to make it more accessible. Examples of environmental adaptations include the installation of a ramp, the provision of a disabled parking space, and the installation of a hearing loop in a public space.
